Western Equality (WE) A community-based organization affiliated with the Western Colorado Congress. WE was organized in 1992 following voter approval of Amendment 2, and worked through education and community organizing towards the repeal in 1996. Later WE became affilitated with Equality Colorado based in Denver and began working on other programs to change the attitudes and beliefs of the local community towards GLBT persons. This has been accomplished with an Anti-Violence associate initiating discussions with the local school board about safe schools, and advocating for justice in several western slope hate crimes. We are a presence in the local media, and provide education, support, referrals and special events. WE currently meets once a month at 5:30 pm on the second Mondays at our office, 523 1/2 Main Street, Suite #11. It is open to the public and a potluck dinner happens. There is a library with several hundred volumes of books (fiction, psychology, spiritual, humor, history) to be checked out for free. Meeting is on on the third Thursday of each month beginning at 6pm with a potluck dinner and followed by our general meeting starting about 7pm and lasting approx. 1 1/2 hours.
