The internet is an excellent source for current information on AIDS research and advocacy. The following is a partial listing of reliable HIV/AIDS websites.

AIDS Clinical Trials Information Service (ACTIS): Lists current information on federally and privately sponsored clinical trials. Two databases: one is on trial protocols and the other on drugs.

American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmFAR): Site of one of the nation's leading nonprofit organizations for HIV/AIDS research, education and advocacy. Features upcoming events, research, programs and grants.

Critical Path AIDS Project: Founded by people with AIDS to provide services and treatment. Site features substantial amount of information on prevention and clinical trials, as well as a searchable index.

HIV/AIDS Treatment Information Service: An archive that provides information about federally approved treatment guidelines for HIV/AIDS. Staffed by bilingual (English/Spanish) health information specialists who will research and answer questions.

HIV InSite: A project of the University of California, San Francisco AIDS program at San Francisco General Hospital, and the UCSF Center for AIDS Prevention Studies. Education, resources and current research reports highlight this site.

International Association of Physicians in AIDS care: A primary resource for health care professionals, but easy to understand. Features research publications online, as well as regular updates on clinical management of HIV/AIDS.

International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI): Site for a global initiative dedicated to expediting HIV vaccine research and development. Research, advocacy and education efforts described.

Johns Hopkins AIDS Service: A definitive source for journal articles and publications, as well as the complete text for Medical Management of HIV infection, a standard used by Maryland health providers.

The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) HIV/AIDS Information Center: Access this site by looking under the "Health Insight" section. Collection of JAMA's journal articles, abstracts, and treatment guidelines, as well as daily news updates about HIV/AIDS research efforts.

National AIDS Fund: Nation's leading organization on HIV/AIDS issues within the workplace. Also offers information on support services, government policies and course offerings for employers and employees.

National Institutes of Health-Office of AIDS Research (NIH-OAR): Provides extensive information about NIH AIDS research programs. Vaccine trials, along with the latest combination drug therapies, are described in depth.

Project Inform: A national, nonprofit organization that provides free, confidential information on HIV/AIDS. An excellent source for fact sheets, discussion papers and handouts.

Women's Interagency HIV Study: A prospective study that conducts comprehensive investigations on the impact of HIV infection in women. Site features research abstracts and publications.
