Rainbow Mother of Hope
Original 24 x 36 Watercolor
Katherine Skaggs ©2004
Born amidst a devastating flood, this presence reminds us of hope
that there is always a rainbow after the storm.
Rainbow Mother of Hope was painted during the devastating flood of 1997 in Fort Collins, Colorado. I was oblivious to what was happening in our community as I painted into the night.
The next day when I discovered the rains had brought a flood that ravaged much of the town, I reflected on the painting I had been led to do the night prior. Rainbow colors coming from the hands and this knowing face led me to find and feel the metaphors of rainbows and hope. They were not only perfect for this storm that had been in Fort Collins, but were significant to life passages I was making at that time.
I find this painting a wonderful reminder of the healing energy of hope that exists in each of us, as well as in the universe, to make it through the storms of our lives.
